This
is a concrete stairway leading from a very popular promenade
down to a Pacific Ocean beach. The treads and risers have been rounded
by beach pebbles and other debris being pounded into this stairway
by extraordinarily strong tidewaters. |
|

|
The
steps were thoroughly cleaned of salt and other debris prior to
placement of the forms. |
 |
A
FUSION-CRETEŽ concrete-adhesive/enhancer was mixed into the Portland
cement and silica sand used to repair the upper steps. These mixtures
were prepared in a wheelbarrow to a very dry consistency. |
 |
Each
step was first dampened and then primed with a FUSION-CRETEŽ "PRE-MIX"
solution before placement of the repair concrete which was thoroughly
compacted and immediately finished before going down to the next step. |
|
The
FUSION-CRETEŽ concrete-adhesive / enhancer was mixed with a fast-setting
(1 hour), high early strength cement and silica sand for use on the
lower steps. Note that the upper steps (Portland cement) are gray
in color and the lower steps (rapid-setting cement) are tan in color.
The rapid-setting cement was used for the lower steps, setting up
solidly in I hour, so that these steps will not be vulnerable to damage
when the high tide comes in after working hours. Note the rusted,
exposed steel rebar at the base of the stairway railing. This rebar
was thoroughly wire-brushed to remove the rust and then coated with
a highly-concentrated FUSION-CRETEŽ "premix" solution as a rust-inhibitor. |
 |
Look
at these detailed before and after photographs which show how
beautifully the bases of both stairway railings were repaired. The
use of FUSION-CRETEŽ concrete-adhesive/enhancer allows for the placement
of a dry concrete mixture over these areas and immediate sculpting
and shaping, without any type of forms, to match bevels and other
details in the original stairway for an incredible finished repair! |
 |
This
photograph shows how magnificently this Stairway was restored
with the use of FUSION-CRETEŽ products. Each step was subsequently
covered with a steel plate and nosing to provide further protection
for the steps in the future. |

Estimated
time required for this project: two men; five days. |
