ABBREVIATED PROCEDURES FOR USING THESE PRODUCTS:

FUSION-CRETE® I LIQUID and FUSION-CRETE® II CRYSTALS are both high-quality copolymer products which are used in very much the same manner. The liquid product or the powdered product is first mixed with the appropriate amount of water to make what we refer to as the "pre-mix" solution. The amount of water that will be added to each of these products varies, dependent upon what type of work you intend to perform. There is a Mixing Ratio Chart contained in the Instructions For Use of these products, as well as on each five-gallon pail of these products. These Mixing Ratio Charts give the amount of water to be added to the product (by volume) in order to prepare the "pre-mix" solution for numerous applications, as well as the amount of cement and sand to be used in the application. In deeper applications, where gravel may be added, both the amount and the maximum size of the gravel are indicated on the Mixing Ratio Chart. While the liquid product is quite soluble in water, the powdered product is defined as "dispersible and redispersible"; this means that the powdered product may be dispersed in water and redispersed after settling occurs. Consequently, the powdered product, after having been mixed with water, will require stirring from time to time in order to redisperse the powder in the "pre-mix" solution.

The dry repair and/or coating mixture of cement and sand (with or without gravel) is mixed separately in the appropriate ratio which is found on the Mixing Ratio Chart for the desired application you wish to perform. Subsequently, the "pre-mix" solution is slowly added to the dry mixture until the desired consistency is achieved. The "pre-mix" solution will be the ONLY liquid added to the dry mixture of cement and sand. Water should never be added to the dry mixture separately.
Dry mixtures are recommended for projects such as curb repairs because these mixtures may be feathered into broken, jagged surfaces and the construction of forms and major demolition become unnecessary.

Prior to the application of a repair or coating mixture, the repair surface must be thoroughly cleaned and prepared for the repair materials. (See the Instructions For Use for this information.) Just prior to applying the repair mixture, the repair area must be "primed", i.e., a bonding coat applied. In mild climates with little movement, expansion or contraction, the "pre-mix" solution may be used as the primer or bonding coat. However, we strongly recommend that a cementitious slurry coat be used as the bonding coat or primer because this will assure a substantially better bond between the existing surface and the repair/coating application. A cementitious bonding coat may easily be prepared by adding one part of cement and one or two parts of sand to some of the "pre-mix" solution, bringing it to a paintable consistency. This bonding coat may then be applied with a paint brush or wallpaper paste brush just prior to the application of the repair/coating mixture. It is important that the bonding coat be either wet or tacky when the repair/coating mixture is applied. If the bonding coat has dried before the application of the repair/coating mixture, a second bonding coat should be applied prior to the application of the repair/coating mixture in order to assure a strong, permanent bond.

The "pre-mix" solution may also be used to retemper the repair/coating mixture if it has gotten too dry from the sun and/or heat. The "pre-mix" solution may also be used to facilitate the final finishing (trowelling, brooming, sponging, etc.) by placing some of this "pre-mix" solution in a plastic spray bottle (Hudson sprayer for large areas) and "misting" some "pre-mix" solution on the surface immediately prior to the final finishing. Other procedures and techniques for the use of FUSION-CRETE® I LIQUID and FUSION-CRETE® II CRYSTALS are discussed in the Instructions For Use and shown in our videos.

FUSION-CRETE® 5-MINUTE CONCRETE is a totally different, two-component "magnesium/phosphate" product that is used in a substantially different manner. Minimal surface preparation is required. Generally, brushing or sweeping is all that may be required, unless there are substances such as oil, grease, gum or other materials in the repair area that may interfere with a good bond. If this is evident, clean the surface(s) appropriately. Potholes require virtually no surface preparation because the repair material will be fully contained.

Two (2) to three (3) parts of sand (by volume) may first be added to Component "B", Dry Cement Compound, and thoroughly mixed. The green-colored Component "A", Liquid Activator, may be used as a "primer" when repairing vertical or shallow horizontal repair areas. This may be accomplished simply by painting the Liquid Activator on the surface just prior to applying the repair mixture. This will not be necessary in filling potholes because, as previously stated, the repair material will be fully contained.

As its name implies, FUSION-CRETE® 5-MINUTE CONCRETE is an extremely fast-setting concrete and it is important that you have the necessary manpower available and that, once commenced, you work very quickly so that you can accomplish the desired repair properly. In normal circumstances, this material becomes rock-hard in five (5) minutes following the addition of the Liquid Activator to the dry mixture of Component "B" and sand; however, you may delay the hardening time by as much as a few minutes by using more of the Liquid Activator in the mixture. Before using this product on an actual repair site, we suggest that you experiment with this product to properly prepare yourself.

Once the sand has been added to Component "B" and thoroughly mixed, you may prime the repair area first with the Liquid Activator and then quickly add the same amount of Liquid Activator (by volume) as the amount of Component "B" used. Quickly and very thoroughly mix the Liquid Activator with the dry mix of Component "B" and sand using rubber-gloved hands. If the mixture appears too dry, you may add a very small additional amount of Liquid Activator. At first, the mixture will develop a dough-like consistency. You may then apply the
appropriate amount of this material to the repair area with your gloved hands and you may immediately commence the finishing and/or shaping procedures with the use of a steel trowel and/or sponge first dampened with clean water. While a trowel may be useful in compacting the material into the repair area, a water-dampened sponge will be very useful in achieving a nice finish or creating a radius to match an existing radius in the repair area. A chemical induction results from the combination of these materials, causing a substantial increase in heat and the release of a minimal amount of free ammonia. If used indoors, additional ventilation might be desirable. This is unnecessary if the product is used outdoors. Always remember to work very quickly with this product because it will set up in approximately five (5) minutes and will develop a compressive strength of as much as 4,500 psi in approximately two (2) hours! If used to fill a pothole in a roadway, the roadway may be opened to heavy traffic in only five (5) minutes after completing the repair. This material will also set up under water. If it is raining heavily and the pothole to be repaired is full of water, the FUSION-CRETE® 5-MINUTE CONCRETE may be mixed under cover and then dumped into the pothole. Being substantially heavier than water, the repair material will displace the water and, when it reaches street level, may be flattened and finished with a trowel dampened with water while the repair area is covered with a tent or a hand-held umbrella. Sometimes, more than one application may be required to reach the street level. Again, this area may be opened to heavy vehicular traffic (buses and big-rigs included) five (5) minutes following completion of the repair.

This product is very useful to Public Works/Street Maintenance Departments for the repairs of potholes and/or other damage in peak traffic areas during rainstorms. Additional information on this amazing product is included in the Instructions For Use pamphlet.
